Our History

Close Up of ClinicKatz & Dogs Wellness Clinic was founded in 2010 with the goal of providing wellness-centered veterinary care possible, at the best value, for local pet owners.

Katz & Dogs Wellness is the West Valley’s first and only low-cost storefront wellness clinic focusing exclusively on providing preventive veterinary services for pets. These services include spay and neuter surgeries, dental cleanings, vaccinations, microchipping and SNAP testing.

Katz & Dogs serves pet-owners who treasure their pets and who want to ensure that their pets’ basic health care needs are met in order to keep their pets healthy and happy as long as possible. These pet owners are community-oriented, budget-minded, and savvy. They prefer a clinic where services are provided effectively, efficiently, humanely, and affordably. Katz & Dogs strives to be each pet’s preferred preventive care provider.

Dr. Tanja Katz, Veterinarian

Dr. Katz graduated from Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine in May 1996.

Dr. Katz started her veterinary career at All Creatures Veterinary Clinic in her hometown of Omaha, Nebraska. While an associate veterinarian at All Creatures, she treated dogs, cats, horses, lizards, turtles, turkeys, lions, tigers and monkeys.

After three years at All Creatures, Dr. Katz became the first full-time on-site veterinarian for the Nebraska Humane Society. The Nebraska Humane Society is the fifth oldest humane society in the United States. During her seven years there, she grew the surgical department to three veterinarians while personally completing between 30 to 50+ surgeries a day. In addition to her day-to-day veterinary activities, Dr. Katz also testified in court on behalf of The Nebraska Humane Society on animal cruelty cases.
Dr. Katz’ pets include two dogs: Circles, a neurologically-impaired toy poodle and Tess, a spastic rat terrier/ sheltie mix; 2 cats, gentleman Leroy and zen Jim.

Dr. Katz enjoys movies, hiking, and painting. Her current painting series prominently features Tess’s favorite stuffed squeaky toy, affectionately known as Stinky Monkey.

Tom Williamson, Practice Manager/Dental Technician

Prior to joining Katz & Dogs Wellness Clinic, Tom worked as a veterinary technician at the Chandler Spay Neuter Clinic, was an Animal Control Officer with the Nebraska Humane Society and ran AquaPets, an aquarium store in Omaha, Nebraska.

Tom is highly experienced in managing feral cats and aggressive dogs as well as being handy with a hammer and a jigsaw.

Tom has one cat, Vinnie and one dog, Amy.

Tom’s hobbies include designing and maintaining salt water and fresh water fish aquariums for himself and friends, cultivating coral, playing the guitar, cooking and hiking.

Dr. David Rice, Veterinarian/Chiropractor

dr_riceDr. Rice joins the practice with over 30 years of veterinary experience. He graduated from Colorado State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1983 and has practiced in Texas, Colorado, and Arizona in both large and small animal practice. In 1987 he joined the Arizona Department of Racing. While serving as the Chief Veterinarian for the Racing Department, he focused on animal welfare. After six years, Dr. Rice then joined the military during Desert Storm. While serving as a veterinarian in the U.S. Army, he treated Military Working Dogs and in Afghanistan, became interested in animal chiropractic to augment their care. He then pursued advanced training in this discipline. Dr. Rice is now certified by the International Veterinary Chiropractic Association. His chiropractic training enables him to better treat lame, arthritic and geriatric pets as well as younger dogs and cats that have silent pain from muscle and joint injuries. His holistic approach to treatment combined with his traditional veterinary training, augments wellness care for your pet.

Dr. Rice currently serves in the Army Reserve. In 2009, Dr. Rice was the recipient of the Arizona Animal Welfare League, Animal Welfare Award.

Dr. Rice enjoys hiking and sailing in his free time with his wife and two sons. He currently has two cats, Catherine and Lucky. He looks forward to adding a loving dog to his family sometime soon.
